IGP's Office Says No One Informed Pujith Jayasundara To Step Down From Office: Rubbishes Media Reports

September 20, 2018

The IGP Pujith Jayasundara's office said, a short while ago, that no one had informed the Policr Chief to step down from office in two weeks

Contradicting media reports published this morning that President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had asked Jayasundara to resign from the post, a spokesman from the IGP's office said there was no such development.

He also said this IGP had no reason to resign as he was not involved in any wrongdoing.

He also added the story was a figment of imagination of one media station.

The IGP, however, has come under persistent pressure due to allegations that one of its DIGs, Nalaka Silva, was involved in a conspiracy to kill President Maithripala Sirisena.

Several Joint Opposition MPs said in Parliament earlier this week that DIG Silva was a "close friend" of IGP Jayasundara.
