Gnanasara Thera Files Fresh Petition Before Supreme Court Against His Conviction Over Contempt Of Court

Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagoda  Aththe Gnanasara Thera has filed a petition before the Supreme Court against the six years RI imprisonment handed down to him by the Court of Appeal.

Lawyer Rienzie Arsakularathne filed the petition on behalf of the Buddhist monk who is currently undergoing treatment at the Prison Hospital.

Ganasara Thera was found guilty on 04 counts in his contempt of court case by the Court of Appeal, was sentenced for 19 years Rigoruos Imprisonment in total to run concurrently in six years.

Gnanasara Thera was initially convicted for contempt of court by the Homagama Magistrate last month and was sentenced to a 3 months Rigorous Imprisonment. 

as prosecuted for threatening missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda's wife, Sandya Ekneligoda, within the Homagama Magistrate's Court premises.​
