President Still Silent On Qatar Ambassador Despite Many Complaints: Controversial Businessman Still Occupying Office

Despite repeated calls to recall Sri Lankan ambassador to Qatar A.S.P. Liyanage over his questionable conduct, President Maithripala Sirisena has so far failed to act on the controversial businessman.

Several key members of the government, including Minister Harin Fernando and Deputy Minister Buddhika Pathirana, have requested President Sirisena to recall Liyanage.

Liyanage is charged with interfering in administrative activities of a Sri Lankan school in Doha. It is learnt that Liyanage has mixed up his business interests with the diplomatic posting.

Fernando even raised the issue of Liyanage at the last Cabinet meeting and demanded the President to either "transfer or recall" the Ambassador.

A few weeks ago, Liyanage landed in a fresh controversy when he was seen at the Qatar Airport carrying the bags of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's two sons, Yoshitha and Rohitha who visited the country for a friendly Rugby match.

Liyanage rushed to the airport to welcome the Rugby team breaking all diplomatic protocols and standards.

The President's inaction on Liyanage has raised many an eyebrow as the former recalled the entire senior staff of the Sri Lankan embassy in Vienna for not answering his phone call.
