The CID said it had found sufficient evidence to arrest Wijegunaratne for sheltering the main suspect of the crime and supporting him to flee the Policr arrest.

When the CID planned to arrest Wijegunaratne previously, President Maithripala Sirisena summoned senior Police authorities and prevented the move.
