UPFA Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa today announced that he would obtain the membership of the Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) with immediate effect. 

"We will strive to create a broader coalition with many stakeholders under the leadership of Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa to face the upcoming General Election and come out victorious," Rajapaksa tweeted this morning. 

meanwhile, informed sources within the UPFA said the SLPP and the SLFP are currently holding discussions to contest the Parliamentary election under one alliance. 

"Parliamentarians are now allowed to join either party. There are no restrictions as Parliament has been dissolved. Before the election, we will unite under one alliance," a UPFA Parliamentarian added.
