No Interim Relief On MR Appeal: Former President And His Purported Government Continue To Remain Out Of Office

December 14, 2018

Supreme Court today refused to give stay order on the interim relief granted by the Court of Appeal in the Quo Warranto case against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government.

When the case was taken up today before a three-judge bench comprising Eva Wanasundara, Buwaneka Aluwihare and Vijith Malalgoda, counsels from both parties presented submissions.

The refusal to grant interim relief was unanimous. However, the Supreme Court granted special leave to proceed with Justice Vijith Malalgoda dissenting.

With this latest development, Rajapaksa and his purported government will continue to remain out of office.

Our sources said President Mahinda Rajapaksa is currently at the Presidential Secretariat.
