President Preparing To Hold Early Presidential Election: Discusses Plan With Rajapaksa

President Maithripala Sirisena is preparing to announce an early presidential election, Asian Mirror reliably learns.

The President has already discussed the matter with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, informed political sources told Asian Mirror.

While speaking to the media last week, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also indicated that there might be an early Presidential election.

The President is permitted by the Constitution to hold a Presidential election on any day after January 09.

The President is likely to be supported by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, led by the group supporting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

It is against this backdrop that Sirisena changed the General Secretary of the SLFP. The President is scheduled to appoint new Provincial Governors at 2 PM today.
