"President Threw Away Range Bandara's File When The UNP MP Went To Take Oaths As Non-Cabinet Minister:" Fonseka Reveals

UNP Parliamentarian Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said President Maithripala Sirisena threw away Palitha Range Bandara's file when the latter visited the Presidential Secretariat last week to take oaths as a non-Cabinet minister.

Addressing a UNP meeting in Mahara yesterday, Fonseka said Range Bandara's name was recommended by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for a ministerial position.

"President Sirisena continues to violate the Constitution. It is clearly stated in the Constitution that the President shall act on the advice of the Prime Minister when it comes to ministerial appointments," he added.

Fonseka also said that his name too had been rejected by the President. "This is an act of revenge. From what I understand, Sri Lanka has still not received democracy. Our victory still remains vulnerable."

The former Army Commander predicted that there could be another political crisis in the country in another 2-3 months.

"The Prime Minister and other members of the Cabinet are dancing like crabs in a boiling pot of water. The President continues to violate the constitution and the situation remains volatile as ever," he added.
