Justice Ministry Working Towards Establishment Of Second High Court For Corruption: Court Expected To Be Functional By February

The Justice Ministry is currently working expeditiously towards the setting up of the second Special High Court for corruption, Justice Ministry sources said.

The move is aimed at expediting the cases regarding acts of large scale bribery and corruption.  The government has repeatedly stressed the need for cleaning the backlog of cases concerning bribery and corruption investigations.

They added that Justice Minister Thalatha Atukorale is currently working towards finalizing the logistics for the proposed second High Court for Corruption. "Everything can be finalized within two weeks. The second HC will be functional by early February, " they added.

Upon setting up of the court, Chief Justice Nalin Jayalath Perera will be in charge of its functioning

The setting up of Special High Court for corruption was sanctioned by Parliament through a special act last year.
