Supreme Court Issues Injunction Order Against Ministry Of Health Preventing Appointments Of Interns For Govt Hospitals Over SAITM Issue

February 26, 2019

The SAITM Medical Graduates Association says the Supreme Court has issued an injunction order against the Ministry of health preventing the appointment of interns for state hospitals.

The application was filed by Upul Jayasuriya PC and Kolitha Dharmawardena PC on behalf of  SAITM medical graduates.

The three-judge bench comprising Justices Prasanna Jayawardena, K. Thurairajah and P. Soorasena issued this injunction order due to the fact that Ministry of Health had decided to absorb an intake of interns while excluding the SAITM graduates who were given an SC directive to be registered provisionally by the Srilanka Medical council.

However, the SLMC has thus far defied the SC directive and a Contempt of courts case is filed in the appeal courts by Romesh de Silva PC appearing on behalf of the SAITM medical graduates.
