TNA Leader R. Sampanthan has been appointed a member of the Constitutional Council. 

Sampanthan replaces Chamal Rajapaksa who resigned from the Constitutional Council recently. 

Rajapaksa was appointed to the council as the representative of Sampanthan when the latter was the Opposition Leader. 

Rajapaksa served in the council as the representative of the Opposition Leader. 

When Sampanthan lost his post as the Leader of the Opposition, he also lost his membership of the Constitutional Council.
