Private Bus Association Launches 24-Hour Strike Against Government's Decision To Increase Spot Fines For Traffic Law Violations

All Island Private Bus Employees Association said it would launch a 24-hour countrywide token strike from midnight today against the government's decision to increase spot fines for Traffic law violations.

The Association said the decision to increase spot fines on traffic offenders had inconvenienced private bus drivers.

A gazette notification was issued earlier this month to increase the minimum fine imposed on seven motor traffic law violations to Rs. 25,000.

The government said the revision of spot fines was aimed at reducing the number of accidents.
