International Water Seminar Inaugurated

The 3rd International Conference on “Community and Water Services” was inaugurated at Sri Lanka International Buddhist Academy in Pallekele on Friday (22).

The Conference organized by the Water Supply and Drainage Ministry under the theme of “Water - Community Development and Prosperity” will continue till August 24.

This 3 day conference is aiming to provide a platform for sharing knowledge, strategies and best practices and to promote dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation among communities managing their water supply schemes.

In a message to mark the event President Mahinda Rajapaksa said this conference will support a useful dialogue on the post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda, and follow up on the 2nd International Conference on Water Cooperation for Community Development held in Anuradhapura, last year.

“The large number of delegates from different community based organizations, policy makers, researchers, UN agencies, women's organizations and related international development agencies, will help produce a more valuable dialogue on the varied aspects and strategies for cooperation among communities in the management of water supply projects, including the prevention and overuse of fresh water resources that threatens our ecosystems so crucial to human activities”, President said.
