The first mass after the Easter Sunday explosions at the St. Sebastian's Church, Katuwapitiya, Negombo took place today under the auspices of Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.

Families of those lost lives in the suicide bomb attack and those injured attended the mass. The government had deployed strict security around the church premises to ensure the security of those attended the church.

The reconstruction work of the Katuwapitiya church began two days after the Easter Sunday explosions. President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and several other senior figures in the government visited the church premises and inspected the damages.

However, it is not immediately clear whether the church will hold its regular Sunday mass this weekend. Cardinal Ranjith last week informed all Catholic churches to refrain from holding regular Sunday masses until further notice.
