"Street Names Should Only Be In Sinhala, Tamil Or English: Decision To Be Imposed With Immediate Effect": PM Orders Home Affairs Minister

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed Home Affairs, Local Govt. and Provincial Councils Minister Vajira Abeywardene to ensure with immediate effect that street names in Sri Lanka are only in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages.

The Prime Minister has also instructed the Minister that no other language should be used for street names.

This came amidst reports that street names in some parts of the country are in the Arabic language.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said earlier this weeks that Madrasas should be brought under the control of the Educations Ministry.

He also added that the government would not give permission to Sharia Universities in Sri Lanka.
