Blast In Jaffna An Accidental Explosion Of Unserviceable Device: Says Some Lands Around Army Camps Yet To Be Cleared

The Army said the explosion at Vasavilan Army Camp that killed one soldier and injured two others was the accidental explosion of an unserviceable device that had remained in the perimeter of the camp.

The injured soldiers were rushed to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital last evening for medical treatment.

"The Soldiers were clearing camp perimeter at the time, " the Army statement said.

Although over 97% humanitarian demining has been completed in civilian areas, some land around Army camps is yet to be cleared of explosives, the Army also added.
