Supreme Court Decides To Hear Petition On Provincial Council Elections On September 09

The Supreme Court decided to hear the Fundamental Rights petition relating to the Provincial Council elections on September 09.

The petition seeks an order directing the Elections Commission to hold the Provincial Council elections. The PC elections have been delayed for over an year due to issues relating to the delimitation process.

The petition was filed by the SLPP-affiliated Sathya Gaveshakayo organization.

The Elections Commission has previously made it clear that it will hold the Provincial Council elections under the old electoral system if there is a court order directing the Commission to proceed with the election.
