"Emergency Regulations Will Not Be Extended After Next Month As Country Has Returned To Normalcy": Mahinda Amaraweera

UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said Emergency Regulations would not be extended after last month.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo today, Amaraweera said there was no need to further extend Emergency Regulations as the country has returned to normalcy.

Amaraweera addressed the press briefing as a "special representative" of President Maithripala Sirisena. "We will extend the Emergency Regulations this month for the last time."

"We had to extend the Emergency Regulations this time as there were strong requests from schools and some foreign diplomatic missions in Colombo," Amaraweera added.

"However, our attention on the national security will not change," the UPFA General Secretary said.
