Prageeth Ekneligoda's Wife Sandhya Ekneligoda Files Fundamental Rights Petition Against Release Of Gnanasara Thera On Presidential Pardon

Missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda's wife Sandhya Ekneligoda has filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court against President Maithripala Sirisena's move to release Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera on a presidential pardon.

The Attorney General, the Minister of Justice, the Secretary to the President, the IGP, the Acting IGP and the Superintendent of the Welikada Prison have been cited as respondents in the case.

The petitioner has requested the Supreme Court to revoke the Presidential pardon for Gnanasara Thera who was convicted for contempt of court.

She said the move amounted to a violation of her Fundamental Rights.

Gnanasara Thera was released on a Presidential pardon by President Maithripala Sirisena in the wake of Easter Sunday explosions.
