IGP Pujith Jayasundara Also Admits Himself To Police Hospital Following Sudden Illness: No Statement To CID Today

IGP Pujith Jayasundara has admitted himself to the Police Hospital in Narahenpita following a sudden illness.

Jayasundara was summoned by the Criminal Investigations Department this morning to record a statement on security lapses leading to the Easter Sunday attacks. Meanwhile, former Defence Ministry Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, who was also expected to appear before the CID this morning, has been admitted to the ICU of the Cardiology Unit at the Colombo National Hospital.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera has instructed Acting IGP Senior DIG C.D. Wickramaratne to name Jayasundara and Fernando as suspects in the Easter Sunday attack and produce them in court.

The Attorney General previously instructed the Acting IGP to initiate criminal action on Jayasundara and Fernando over their failure to avert the Easter Sunday explosions.
