Supreme Court Blocks President Sirisena's Move To Resume Executions: No Death Sentence Until October 30

The Supreme Court today suspended executions until October 30.

With this new development, no executions will be carried out by the Prisons Department until October 30.

The Supreme Court gave the order when it considered Fundamental Rights petitions filed by multiple parties against President Maithripala Sirisena's decision to sanction death penalty for four convicts.

A prisoner who is currently on a death row also filed a Fundamental Rights petition against the President's move.
