The Elections Commission is likely to announce the Presidential election 2019 on September 30, informed sources said.

Nomination papers will be accepted by the commission between 16 and 21 days after the formal declaration of the election.

Accordingly, the Presidential election is expected to take place during the last week of November.

The SLPP and the JVP have already announced their presidential candidacy. In addition, it is expected that nearly 20 candidates will run for the presidency at the election later this year.
