The proposed alliance between the SLPP and the SLFP has hit a snag with the latter vehemently opposing to contest under the SLPP's symbol.

The SLFP has been pushing for a common symbol that will enable the party to enter into an alliance with the SLPP. without losing its identity.

The SLFP has hold thd SLPP that their opposition to the 'flower bud' symbol is a matter of dignity.

However, speaking to the media yesterday, SLPP stalwart Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said they would not change the SLPP symbol under any circumstances.

"The people have already rallied behind our symbol and it would be absolutely foolish of us to let go of it," Abeywardena said.
