Attorney General Instructs Acting IGP To Initiate Inquiry On Why CID Failed To Act On Abduction Of Journalist Keith Noyahr

September 12, 2019

The Attorney General has instructed the Acting IGP to initiate an inquiry as to why the Criminal Investigations Department has failed to act on the abduction of journalist Keith Noyahr.

The Attorney General has told the Acting IGP that he requested the Police Department two months ago to expedite investigations into the abduction of Noyahr, in which several military intelligence members are implicated.

Despite the clear instructions, the AG said, no action has so far been taken by the Police to expedite the investigations. The AG has said the CID has not even briefed the AG on the progress of the investigations.

Nohayr, formerly the Associate Editor of the now-defunct The Nation newspaper, was abducted in May 2008 in Dehiwala. He had been subjected to torture by the abductors at a safe house in the Dompe area.
