Tamil Nadu Congress Leader Says ‘SL Army Will Quit North If We Are Mum’

Sri Lanka Army will quit from the northern part of the island if Tamil Nadu does not rake up the Sri Lankan Tamil issue repeatedly, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Leader B.S. Gnanadesikan has stated in a recent interview with Deccan Chronicle in India.

He has accused the main political parties in Tamil Nadu for “creating a fear psychosis among the Lankans that there might be another uprising.” This, he argues, prevents the restoration of normalcy in the island. If Tamil Nadu politicians do not rake up the issue, Sri Lankan Tamils will be happy. “Political parties in TN will not have an agenda if the problem is settled. They are doing it for personal political gains” He has added.

Gnanadesikan has also added that if Kachchateevu Island can be retrieved by India, the TNCC won’t stand in the middle. But its retrieval will not solve the fishermen issue, he adds. Furthermore, since there is an international agreement on the island, any ruling by Indian Supreme court will not bind Sri Lanka.

He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the fishermen issue. He states even though Modi’s promises sounded as if he will solve the issue overnight, the ground reality is that it was just an election promise.
