President Indicates He Will Remain In Active Politics Even After Presidential Election: Says He Enjoys Politics Rather Than Retirement

President Maithripala Sirisena today indicated that he would remain in active politics, even after the next Presidential election.

In a Twitter post, Sirisena said he preferred active politics over going into retirement.

Sirisena's social media post came immediately after his return from Japan - his last overseas tour as the President of Sri Lanka.

Some media reports had indicated that Sirisena was considering to enter Parliament as a national list MP.

However, several MPs have reportedly turned down President Sirisena's request to resign from Parliament in order to allow the SLFP to nominate Sirisena as a national list MP.
