Meanwhile, former senior military officer Major General (retd) Kamal Gunaratne has been appointed the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence. Gunaratne has been a long-standing ally of Rajapaksa.

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Dr. S.D. Attygalle has been appointed the Secretary to the President.
