Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to meet President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister will discuss arrangements for transition of power with the newly-elected President.

The UNP is sharply divided on whether the party should support the immediate dissolution of the current Parliament.

Parliament cannot be dissolved without the support of 2/3 of MPs.

A sizable proportion of UNP MPs are of the view that an immediate Parliamentary election should not be held.
