Two new governors have been appointed by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Anuradha Yahampath has been appointed the Governor of the Eastern Province while Prof. Tissa Vitarana has been appointed the Governor of the North Central Province.

Prof. Vitarana is a stalwart of the Lanka Sama Samaaja Party, a party affiliated with the SLPP campaign.

Vitarana worked as a Minister in the Rajapaksa administration before 2015.
