Nimal Siripala Says Government Must Restore Public Confidence In Judiciary: "People Have Serious Doubts Over Independent Commissions Established Under 19A"

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the government must work towards restoring public faith in the judiciary through necessary constitutional amendments.

The Minister, a Senior Vice President of the SLFP, said serious doubts have been expressed by the public over independent commissions established under the provisions of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.

"The independence of the judiciary must be established. At the same time, the public must have confidence in the functioning of our judiciary," he added.

The Minister added that the public confidence in the judiciary has eroded due to various reasons.

De Silva said this should be reversed through necessary constitutional amendments.
