Attorney General's Recommendation To Arrest High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya Sparks Controversy: Committee Appointed To Study The Matter Further

A controversy has sparked over the Attorney General's instructions to the Acting IGP to arrest Embilipitiya High Court judge Gihan Pilapitiya.

The Attorney General gave this instruction to the Police over the call recording controversy involving MP Ranjan Ramanyake.

Pilapitiya was questioned by the Colombo Crimes Division earlier this week on the same matter.

However, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa instructed the Police chief earlier this month that arrests should be carried out only when it is absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile, a five-member committee comprising three Deputy Inspector Generals and two other police officers has been appointed by the IGP to study abstracts and make recommendations on the investigation into interdicted High Court Judge Gihan Pilapitiya
