Government Decides To Borrow Rs. 15 Billion From China To Develop 105 km Of Roads In The Midst Of Severe Economic Crisis

While the country is battling a severe economic crisis, the Cabinet has decided to borrow Rs. 15 billion from China Development Bank to develop 105 kilometres of roads in Sri Lanka.

Cabinet co-spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana said that cabinet approval had been given to raise to money to develop 10 roads in different parts of Sri Lanka.

The development comes a day after Secretary to the President Dr.P.B. Jayasundara requested government servants to donate half of their monthly salaries to support the government's efforts against the COVID19 outbreak in the country.

Commenting on the move, an opposition activist said the government's urgency to obtain loans to construct roads at this juncture remains unclear.
