President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's name has been included in the US Federal Register’s Quarterly (March) Publication of Individuals who have chosen to expatriate.

Rajapaksa's citizenship sparked a fierce debate in the run up to the last Presidential election. However, the Rajapaksa campaign publicised documents to prove that Rajapaksa was no longer a US citizenship.

With the latest announcement, the US confirms that Rajapaksa has successfully renounced his US citizenship.
