Mangala Leaves For A Sudden Foreign Trip In Protest Of Sajith's Appointment

Head of the UNP Communications Unit and Matara District Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera has left the country suddenly for a short break from politics, in protest of the party's move to appoint Sajith Premadasa as its Deputy Leader.

Before his sudden overseas trip, Samaraweera had held a discussion with opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and expressed reasons for his disappointment.

Both Mangala Samaraweera and Ravi Karunanayake have vehemently protested the decision on the grounds that Premadasa has a secret agreement with some top echelons of the government. Karunanayake has even threatened to step down from the party in protest of Sajith Premadasa's appointment.

“He has been provided with exra security and cars by the government. And I have information about a lot of insider dealings with the government and I will declare those at correct time,” Karunanayake had told a weekly English newspaper today.

It is learnt that Sajith PRemadasa has already proposed the Opposition Leader to abolish the Leadership Council of the party, headed by Parliamentarian Karu Jayasuriya.

In addition to that, Premadasa has also demanded that 10 members, nominated by him, be appointed to the Working Committee of the party,
