JUST IN: Supreme Court Unanimously Refuses Leave To Proceed In All FR Petitions Challenging The General Election Date

The Supreme Court refused leave to proceed in all FR cases filed challenging the date of the General Election.

The unanimous decision was declared in the Supreme Court, a short while ago.

The case was heard a before a five-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, Buwaneka Aluvihare, Sisira de Abrew, Priyantha Jayawardena and Vijith Malalgoda.

Petitioners, respondents and intervening parties presented their submissions for 10 days.

Charitha Gunaratne, Patali Champika, Kumara Welgama, Victor Ivan, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, and four other parties filed petitioners have filed Fundamental Rights petitions challenging the Gazette published by the National Elections Commission.
