Newly-Appointed Director Of Kurunegala Hospital Steps Down From Post Five Days After Assuming Duties: Cites "Racist Remarks" As Reason For Resignation

North-Western Province Health Services Director Dr. N. Fareed, who was appointed the Acting Director of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, has stepped down from his new post.

The new Director has resigned from his post just five days after assuming office.

Dr. Fareed has resigned from the post on the basis that some group is trying to "stir up" racism connecting him and Dr. Shafi Shiyabdeen, who was under investigation for performing unconsented sterilization surgeries.

Fareed replaced Dr. Sarath Weerabandara, a controversial doctor who is known to be affiliated with Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
