President Instructs State Officials To Stay Away From Politics During Election Period: Encourages Public Complaints Against Those Who 'Misuse' His Name

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has issued strict instructions for state officials to refrain from engaging in political activities.

Issuing a statement, Rajapaksa said in no uncertain terms that all state officials must stay away from political activities during the election period.

He said state officials should discharge their duties in an impartial manner, without any political biases and affiliation.

The President also warned that strict action would be taken against those who fail to comply with his instructions.

In a separate statement, the President also said It had been brought to his attention that some are using his name to influence public officials, for personal gain.

"I have not given such power to anyone, to use my name in pressurizing public officials," the President said encouraging the public to lodge complaints against such individuals.
