Sri Lankan Man Caught On CCTV Camera ‘Molesting Unaware Shoppers’

A Sri Lankan man was arrested after a CCTV footage reportedly showed him molesting unaware customers of a shop in Al Rafaa, a Dubai court heard on Sunday.

The 29-year-old vendor was apprehended on May 30 after the shopkeeper reported him to the police.

The accused, identified as S.D., is accused of molesting a man and a woman while they were checking items at the shop. He was charged with molestation in the Court of First Instance.

The Indian shopkeeper, 22, said the accused was a regular customer. “A customer complained that the accused was inappropriately touching people inside the shop. On checking the surveillance cameras, we saw that he had touched two customers — a man and a woman.”

When the accused returned to the same shop about a week later, the shopkeeper confronted him with the CCTV footage. “He admitted that he made a mistake and asked for forgiveness. But we called the police,” the shopkeeper told the prosecutor.

The prosecution enclosed the video tape provided by the shop to the case file as part of evidence.

The court will give a verdict on the case on September 24. (Emirates 24/7)
