Four Indian Fishermen Arrested By SL Navy

Four fishermen from Tamil Nadu have been arrested by Sri Lankan naval personnel while, a top fisheries department official said.

The fishermen from Jagadapattinam in the Pudukottai district had put out to sea Monday night and did not return Tuesday.

Sekar, Assistant Director of Fisheries in the district, has told Indian media yesterday that some other fishermen who came back had informed them of the arrest. The Lankan naval personnel had arrested the fishermen and apparently taken them to Talaimannar.

This news came just after anothe allegation by some fishermen elesewhere in Tamil Nadu that their fishing nets have been damaged by the Sri Lankan Navy near Kachchatheevu.
