The suspect arrested in connection with the attack on Sirasa journalist Kapila Chandana Kuruppu at Hali-Ela on September 22 has been remanded till October 1 after being produced before the Badulla Magistrate's Court today.

The suspect, 32-year-old Amila Chandana alias 'Kalu Arige Putha' was arrested yesterday in connection with the attack.

The attack occurred when the journalist had arrived at Hali-Ela to report on the disturbances there. He was admitted to hospital with injuries. His camera equipments were also broken.

The commotion occurred when some UNP cutouts and banners were damaged by a large group of people. UNP stalwart Harin Fernando’s vehicle was attacked when he arrived at the place to inquire.

The vehicle was also damaged.
