Palitha Range Bandara Arrested For Alleged Assault

September 28, 2014

Puttalam District UNP Parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara has been arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting Karuwalagaswewa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Neil Weerasinghe.

The arrest was made after Weerasinghe had complained of the assault to the Vanathavilluwa acting ASP Dilshan Nagahawatte. The complaint said that Palitha Range Bandara had come to Weerasinghe’s house at about 8.45am today and assaulted him.

Range Bandara has said that he did not assault the PS Chairman. He had visited the latter’s house to inquire about an incident where two cutouts to support Sajith Premadasa’s election as Deputy Leader of the UNP, displayed at Karuwalagaswewa Junction, had been destroyed.

Bandara had further said that he had informed the SLFP Organizer of Anamaduwa Electorate, Minister of Civil Aviation Priyankara Jayaratne about his visit to Weerasinghe’s house. The PS Chairman had verbally assaulted him, Bandara claims.

Weerasinghe has been admitted to Puttalam Hospital and Range Bandara is due to be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court.
