Pakistan To Build 220 Houses For Homeless Sri Lankans In Mannar And Nanattan

Pakistan has initiated a housing project to assist Sri Lanka in the rehabilitation of war affected homeless people of the Northern Province. In this regard, the High Commissioner of Pakistan Maj. Gen. (R) Qasim Qureshi, handed over a cheque of US $ One Million to the Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Basil Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees in the presence of Minister of Industries and Commerce, Mr. Rishad Bathiudeen.

Both honourable Ministers greatly appreciated the friendly gesture by the Government of Pakistan. This donation will be utilized by the Sri Lankan Government to construct 220 houses for the homeless people in the villages of Puthukkudiyiruppu, Narikkadu and Moddaikadai in Mannar District.

The High Commissioner said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka enjoy excellent relations which are being strengthened by exchange of high level visits and strong support extended by both sides to each other in matters of mutual interests at the regional and international forums. The High Commissioner assured that Pakistan would continue to extend all possible support to Sri Lanka in future, as well.
