“Sobhitha Thera Will Continue To Work With Common Opposition”

UNP Parliamentarian and Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake, who visited MAduluwawe Sobhitha thera at the private hospital where the latter is undergoing treatment, said the senior Buddhist monk will continue to support the common opposition regardless of the pressure mounted by the government.

Denying various newspaper reports claiming Sobithat thera had decided to remain silent following the meeting with the President, the UNP Assistant Leader said the Buddhist monk will play an active role in the common opposition’s campaign for the forthcoming Presidential Election.

“Sobhitha thera is determined to work with the opposition. No one can silence him,” Karunanayake told Asian Mirror this morning.

Several media reports claimed that Sobhitha thera met President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the residence of Parliamentarian Tiran Alles. Soon after the conclusion of the common opposition meeting on Wednesday. The meeting, reportedly, has been arranged by the DNA Parliamentarian.

Following the meeting Sobhitha thera was admitted to Neville Fernando Private Hospital in Malabe. Dr. Neville Fernando, the owner of the hospital, is known to be a staunch supporter of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

However, an opposition Politician who visited Sobitha thera told Asian Mirror that his sugar level had gone up over the past few days. He categorically denied rumors claiming that Sobitha thera was suffering due to cardiac arrest.
