“Plan To Open The Spill Gates Of ‘Parakrama Samudraya’ Before Maithri’s First Rally”

November 30, 2014

Businessman Dudley Sirisena, brother of common candidate Mathripala Sirisena, told reporters in Polonnaruwa that there was a plan to open the spill gates of ‘Parakarama Samudraya’ just before the first political rally of common candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

As a result of the move, Sirisena added, the roads in the area would be inundated and it would interrupt the rally. He told reporters in Polonnaruwa that there was a discussion to open the spill gates of Parakrama Samudraya this morning citing heavy rains.

However, no final decision has so far been taken on opening the spill gates of the Parakrama Samudraya.

Meanwhile a section of media carried an un-sourced story stating there was a plan to attack the polonnaruwa rally this evening.  When contacted by Asian Mirror, the Police Department said such reports were baseless and security has been strengthened in the area.

The first rally of common candidate Maithripala Sirisena will take place this evening in Polonnaruwa – his own electorate – with the participation of a number of opposition politicians. It will also mark the launch of the common candidate’s presidential campaign.

The first rally comes a day ahead of the signing of the MOU by political parties and civil organizations supporting the common candidate.
