December 03, 2014

United National Party (UNP) Chairman Kabeer Hasheem has said that many reputed and educated members of the UPFA still dream of becoming President or Prime Minister someday.

Speaking at a UNP meeting in Mawanella, the UNP Chairman remarked that no such dreams could come true as long as President Mahinda Rajapaksa remains in his position.

“Many members of the ruling party still hope that they could become President someday, even they know that it will be limited to a dream”, Hasheem said.

Hasheem asserted that the 18th Amendment to the constitution has affected the memersof the ruling party to a great exent and they have started to realize the injustice that has been done to them.

“More crossovers from the ruling party in the future are inevitable, members who are dissatisfied by the UPFA’s conduct will join the opposition ultimately”, Hasheem said.

Hasheem maintained that the UNP does not follow family-centered politcs and that everyone in the party have equal rights.
