EVKS Likens MR To Prabhakaran

December 20, 2014

TNCC president EVKS Elangovan on Friday compared Sri Lankan president Rajapaksa with LTTE leader V Prabhakaran and said that he considered both  as  ‘evils’.

Speaking to reporters after the party’s State executive committee meeting here, he said while Prabhakaran was a “terrorist”, Rajapaksa massacred Tamils, and added that his party was opposed to both.  The TNCC chief vowed to fight for the rights of Tamil Nadu if Karnataka was adamant in constructing dams across the Cauvery at Mekedatu. He also urged Chief Minister O Panneerselvam to convene an all party meeting on the issue and pressure the Centre to prevent the construction.

Elangovan said the party leaders had chalked out plans to strengthen the party by meeting people. Rahul Gandhi would visit the State and the dates would be fixed soon, he added.

Dismissing the charge of TMC leader GK Vasan that the Congress leadership functioned in an autocratic manner, party observer Mukul Wasnik said Vasan was consulted by the high command on every issue, including nomination of party functionaries.

He said the BJP, which came to power with the slogan of development, was now implementing ‘communal’ projects.

Earlier, the TNCC resolved to unite all secular parties in the State on a single political platform to fight against the BJP. It alleged that the Centre was trying to scrap the MGNREGA and Women SHGs, and demanded withdrawal of such moves.

Besides seeking to drop the move of cutting subsidy for kerosene, it also wanted reduction in taxes on petroleum products to make them available at prices prevailing in the international market.
