Opposition Activists Attacked In Hambanthota

December 21, 2014

A street protest involving Opposition members and activists has been attacked in Hambantota this morning, opposition sources told Asian Mirror.

The attack has allegedly been carried out by a local government politician in the area.

Britto Fernando, Jayathilaka Bandara, Philip Dissanayake and several activists have been attacked by goons, opposition sources also added.

A spokesperson of the opposition, who spoke to Asian Mirror following the attack, said the activists were assaulted in the presence of Police.

This was the second time artiste Jayathilaka Bandara came under attack since the announcement of the presidential election.

This incident happened just a day after a common opposition election meeting in Badulla came under attack 10 minutes before the arrival of UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Common Opposition alleged that no action was taken against the perpetrators who carried out attacks against supporters and activists of the opposition.
