Tissa Attanayake Publicizes Alleged "Secret" Agreement Between UNP And Maithri

December 22, 2014

Former General Secretary of the UNP and Health Minister Tissa Attanayake today publicized an alleged secret agreement signed by Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena and the United National Party.

Attanayake, addressing a press briefing in Colombo, said the UNP decided to support the Common Candidate based on that secret agreement.

The former UNP General Secretary said the secret agreement was “detrimental” to the country in more ways than one.

However, two weeks ago, Attanayake said he was not aware of any agreement that was signed between the main opposition party and the Common Candidate. He said he was not briefed on any such development although he was he General Secretary of the party.

He did not disclose how he had access to the secret agreement signed between the two parties.

The alleged secret agreement, however, contains a number of proposals pertaining to the North and East issues in the country and encapsulates all the major demands of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

However, signatures that appear in the agreement are not regular signatures of UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
