Solangaarachchi Seeks Court Intervention Over "Attempted Arrest"

December 31, 2014
Former Chairman of Kotikawatte-Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha Prasanga Solangaarachchi today filed an anticipatory bail application before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court to pre-empt the possibility of his arrest over charges levelled by Colombo Crimes Division over possession of a weapon.

In his petition, Solangaarachchi cited the OIC of the Colombo Crime Division as  therespondent. Accordingly, the OIC of the Colombo Crime Division was ordered to be appear before Court on January 7 to inquire into the petition. He filed this petition before Court through an attorney-law alleging that there is an attempt to arrest him over non bailable charges.

Addressing a press conference at the Opposition Leader's Office, Solangaarachchi's wife told media that there was an attempt to harm her husband's life. She pleaded the security establishments of the country to protect the life of former Chairman of the Kotikawatte-Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha.

Solangaarachchi left the UPFA and joined the campaign of the Common Opposition two weeks after the announcement of the presidential election.
