Lasantha's Brother Renews Call For Impartial Inquiry into Murder

A candlelight vigil will be held today (9) at 5:30 p.m. in Attidiya at the place where The Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge was killed on 8 January 2009.

At the vigil, Lasantha's brother Lal, who set up the paper with Lasantha, will address those gathered.

Asserting that investigating Lasantha's murder will be the first step towards achieving justice, Lal Wickramatunga said he would make a fresh call today for an impartial inquiry into Lasantha's brutal murder.

Although six years have passed since Lasantha was slain, justice has not been delivered yet and his killers still roam free.

Common Candidate of the opposition at Sri Lanka's seventh presidential election, Maithripala Sirisena was elected to presidency on the sixth death anniversary of former Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge.
